Our Story
When sisters KK and Kelly Welch decided to start a business, they looked for something that would fit their outgoing personalities, allow them to operate in Fredericksburg and be together; and the result was Majesty Tours, a company specializing in Fredericksburg-based wine tours. “The wine industry fits us well. We love people and like making sure they have a good time. It really fits us”, says Kelly.
The sisters both have extensive customer service backgrounds. Kelly, with more than 20 years of experience in the retail industry, performs the company’s daily operations related to tour & wedding bookings, customer support & partner relationship management, marketing and logistics. KK, a 22-year employee of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, performs the company’s daily operations relating to general business administration, asset management, human resource development and many of the, “boots on the ground”, aspects of the business.
Initially, both sisters spent their days guiding tours & performing the multitude of tasks involved in starting a new business, but with the overwhelming success of Majesty Tours, their time is largely spent behind the scenes, ensuring that everything runs smoothly. You will still see them from time to time out on tours and at weddings and special events, applying their hands on approach to the company, ensuring things run smoothly and as expected.
KK and Kelly definitely see their company as an extension of their collective passions and the innate joy they take in being around and serving people. “We don’t just drive people around. They become our friends. We treat them like guests to our home and want to make sure they have the best time possible”, says Kelly. “We really like it. It’s not like having a job, it’s more like doing what we like to do anyway”, adds KK.
The company offers the largest variety of tour packages in the Texas Hill Country. Packages range from visits to two, three or four wineries, with food options ranging from a light snack, to lunch or dinner on others. They offer tours to meet every budget, from small intimate group sizes to large corporate groups touring wineries in several busses at a time. They believed their business would attract mostly special event related groups, including bachelorette parties, but have found their base of customers to be very diverse. The company owns several vehicles to meet the wide ranging needs of their customer base.
They believe the wine business in Fredericksburg will continue to grow and create new opportunities. “I think we are just getting started. There are so many people that still need to see how great Fredericksburg and the wineries are. You think of Napa Valley and you think of wine, but we have so much more than that to offer: shopping, dining, museums, Enchanted Rock and live music”, says KK. “When we were growing up, Fredericksburg was mostly known for peaches and German food, now there is something for everybody”, adds Kelly.
As long-time volunteers within the communities in which they have lived, the sisters are committed to contributing back to the community. They have donated their time and resources to dozens of worthy causes in the community, and have no plans of stopping.
They are both quick to say the best aspect of their business is the fact that they are doing it together. “It’s really unique to start a business with your sister. Some think it’s a mistake to go into business with family, but there is no one I trust or respect more than Kelly”, says KK. “We talk many times a day and enjoy every minute of it”, Kelly adds.
